Our inquiry this term is The Pt England Way and our value is respect. Room Ten have been taking part in lots of activites which require them to work together well and respect each others ideas and the way each other work. One of these activities was Collaborative Writing where the children needed to work as a team to write a story. They have shared one of the stories below.
A Tiger Shark is hunting for food they can smell your blood from a distance. The Tiger Shark meets a fish and it eat's the fish quickly. As the fish went down the sharks throat it was began to punch the shark . The fish punches the shark so hard that it made a gigantic hole and the fish swam away.

Marshmallow Towers
Room Ten have been learning to work respectfully as a team.
Today in class the children of Room Ten were challenged to built a Marshmallow Tower as a team. They needed to remember to listen respectfully to the ideas of others, share equipment and include each other in the task to make the tallest tower possible that would stand without help.

Room 10's First Day of 2012!
Welcome to 2012!
It is a new school year here in New Zealand and Room 10 has some new faces and some children who you may already know. We are looking forward to a year full of fun and learning and will be sharing our work on our blog for you all to see and comment on.

Today we have been busy making new friends and settling into our classroom. Already we have been learning from each other and working together as a team to set up our class for the school year.

Lets use our imaginations Room 10!
To inspire us for writing Room Ten have been pretending to be statues.
First we did some research on Google and looked at images of statues.
Next we searched You Tube and watched some amazing human statues in action. Miss Burne then asked to think about the qualities of both kinds of statues and then we played musical statues and tried to be as still as some of the statues we had seen.
Here is a short movie of our game of musical statues. Do you think we are a still as a statue?

MAD SCIENTIST OR CLEVER Aaron?
During our emersion week we did a lot of cool things to find out more about soap. One of which was we did an experiment to see if we could see how soap cleaned things. How does it work?
WHAT WE DID
We had two containers both with oil and water in.
Then we added food colouring to both containers (we use different colours to see the difference).
In one container add some soap.
Stir both and see what happens.
The container with the soap mixes with the oil. The container without the soap does not mix with the oil because oil and water does not mix!! But soap cleans and mixes with the oil. AMAZING.

Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger

Term Two is all about techology and making something bigger, better, faster or stronger!
Team Three are going to be addressing a problem that we have at Pt England School. Our problem is the spread of GERMS or BACTERIA.
Our brief is to make soap better so that children will want to use it! Tricky.

The Making of the Gruffalo Puppet Show

Easter Egg Hunting with Room Ten
For Easter and to inspire us for writing, Room Ten had an easter egg hunt.

The Great Race
Check out our latest movie for School TV!
As part of topic this term Team Three went to MOTAT to learn how to cooperate and be part of a team.
They took part in 'The Great Race' which was a race around MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) where they had to work as a team to solve clues and complete tasks.
This movie shows one team participating in the great race and also has interviews with the other children who took part to find out what they thought about the great race.
Collin did a wonderful job of filming the interviews for this movie . What a legend!

Pt England Supports Christchurch
Friday saw people around New Zealand show their support for Christchurch
by raising money and wearing the Caterbury colours Red and Black. As our school wears read and black every day, Pt England raised money by having a mufti day with all of the proceeds going to Christchurch Schools. Here is a short movie of Room Ten dressed up for the day.
